Texas Gov. Rick Perry
WASHINGTON – Texas Gov. Rick Perry today took Washington to task for sticking its nose where it has no business – yet ignoring its constitutional obligations at the same time.
Perry was speaking to an assembly at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.
"The security of that border [between Texas and Mexico] is one of Washington's essential roles. Protecting our borders," he said.
"Yet they continue their record of abject failure in that area … The bad actors in Mexico are getting worse and the risk to our citizens continues to rise along that border," he said.
"Despite our frequent requests for support, Washington still hasn't dedicated sufficient resources to secure our international border. Again, we still need a 1,000 National Guard troops to support the current law enforcement," he said.
He also said citizens are "fed up" with unelected judges telling them when and where they can pray, Washington has expanded "at the expense of our liberties," and people increasingly are frustrated with the "progressive movement."
"They're increasingly bothered by the idea that our country's going progressively bankrupt. My kids know there's no way that Social Security is going to be there for them if it stays in its current status," he said.
"We're stuck in this frustrating paradox, where Washington actually neglects the things they are clearly supposed to be doing while interfering in other areas in which they are neither welcome nor authorized," he said.
