Obama leads the Congress and the new Red Army Caucus

Just how many members of the U.S. Congress could safely and accurately be called "socialists"?

The list is getting bigger all the time.

Last week, WND's Aaron Klein reported that Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy, D-Ohio, was listed as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America – a group that has also maintained close ties to Barack Obama over the years.

By my count, Kilroy would make at least 82 members of the House and Senate who are avowedly socialist.

How do I come up with that number?

There are 81 members of Congress who belong to something called the Progressive Caucus. In 1998, when I first investigated this outfit, there were 60 members. Back then, the Progressive Caucus website was by the DSA – suggesting a rather close association. Following my exposé of this link between the two organizations in several columns in WND, the Progressive Caucus established a website under the auspices of the Congress of the United States.

Why?

Because the chief organizing objective of the Democratic Socialists of America is to work within the Democratic Party and remove the stigma attached to "socialism" in the eyes of most Americans.

"Stress our Democratic Party strategy and electoral work," explains an organizing document of the DSA. "The Democratic Party is something the public understands, and association with it takes the edge off. Stressing our Democratic Party work will establish some distance from the radical subculture and help integrate you to the milieu of the young liberals."

Nevertheless, as WND reported, the goal of the DSA has never been deeply hidden. Prior to the cleanup of its website in 1999, the DSA included a song list featuring "The Internationale," the worldwide anthem of communism and socialism.



Another song on the site was "Red Revolution," sung to the tune of "Red Robin." The lyrics went: "When the Red Revolution brings its solution along, along, there'll be no more lootin' when we start shootin' that Wall Street throng. ..."

Another song removed after WND's exposé was "Are You Sleeping, Bourgeoisie?" The lyrics went: "Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping? Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie. And when the revolution comes, we'll kill you all with knives and guns, Bourgeoisie, Bourgeoisie."

All of that revolutionary stuff was scrubbed from the DSA website shortly after I exposed it – but today the DSA and Progressive Caucus continue to their march to the Left.

Take a look at the links and resources listed on the Progressive Caucus website if you have any doubts that it remains firmly committed to a hard-left socialist agenda. There you will find avowedly socialist publications and organizations such as:

The socialist influence in Congress can be quantified in more than numbers, too. The leadership of Congress is dominated by Progressive Caucus members, starting at the top with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Why is it alarming that 82 of 535 members of the House and Senate would embrace socialism, yet, in some cases, trying to conceal that embrace?

It's alarming because that represents more than 15 percent of the Congress. The 79 House members represent nearly 20 percent of that august body.

Now you and I both know there are more covert, undercover socialists than that in the Congress. But these numbers of identifiable socialists shows there is a formidable socialist bloc of votes that cannot be overcome by popular opinion, by good arguments, by empirical data or even the rule of law.

By contrast, ask yourself, is there are a similar number of solid votes in the Congress dedicated uncompromisingly and unswervingly to the principles upon which this nation was founded – individual rights, limited government, free enterprise and the rule of law under the greatest Constitution ever devised by man?

I don't think so.
