THE POSER

THE POSER
A satirical parody of The Boxer (Paul Simon)
Lyrics The Poser copyright C. Gardner 2009

I had made my mind up
but the media called me names
So I squandered sane existence
Lending credence to some
fairy tale of hope and change.
I mocked my vote
    without facts or introspection
that this was all a hoax.

Then I lost my job and confidence
that this could all make sense
Laughing Elephants and Asses
Line their pockets with the sweat of us constituents.
Moving lips --
It’s a sign that they are lying,
It’s a never-ending hell
searching for the one with no more lies to tell.

Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie .... Lies

Then Wall Street got its bailouts
and Main Street closed its doors,
But we get no answers
from those lying whores on Pennsylvania Avenue.
And I could swear, I’m so tired wondering
Is this the best that we can do?

Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie .... Lies

While the tyrants make a playground
    from the chaos they create
    to hide the truth
We the people want just plain and simple
    honesty
Honestly,
    Speak the truth.

At the prompter stands “The Poser,”
with “The Gaffer” by his side,
and we’re saddled with their burdens
of every lie that brings us down
or mocks us till we cry out --
We are angered by your shame!
Stop the lying! Stop the lying!
Tell the truth! It's not a game!

Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lies,
Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie, Lie .... Lies ...
